CHINA SOURCING NETWORK

01 / What matters

Check the destination before choosing the car.

Confirm age restrictions, steering position, emissions, homologation, duties and local registration requirements with the destination authorities. A vehicle available in China may not be importable or road-legal elsewhere.

02 / In scope

What we cover

  • Identify the contractual seller and qualified exporter.
  • Confirm invoice, vehicle documents and shipping responsibilities.
  • Budget for freight, insurance, duties, taxes and port costs.

03 / Before you proceed

Document the handover and exceptions.

Ask which documents will be issued, when title and risk transfer, how damage claims are handled and who manages customs at each end. For EVs and batteries, check transport restrictions with the carrier.

Official export requirements

For covered used cars, China requires an eligible exporter, export licensing and a third-party product inspection report. Certain pure-electric passenger vehicles have also required export licensing since 1 January 2026. The exact product classification matters.

One common question

Does a China export document guarantee import approval?

No. Export clearance and destination import approval are separate processes governed by different authorities.
